Excellence in Medicine & Healthcare

Prof. (Dr) Raman Krishna Kumar

He is an internationally renowned Pediatric Cardiologist and an exemplar of dedication to children with heart disease. Following his training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and Children's Hospital, Boston, he set up the pediatric heart program at Amrita Institute, Cochin, in 1998.

A passionate teacher, compassionate physician, and an empathetic leader, he has provided exemplary leadership in pioneering affordable care with exceptional outcomes through a multidisciplinary cohesive team effort focusing on low-cost quality improvement initiatives, innovations, and strategic partnerships.

His work has challenged several existing beliefs and paved the way for vastly improved outcomes for a number of pediatric heart diseases in India and other low-to-middle-income countries. He has trained and mentored 55 pediatric cardiologists, many of whom are leading successful and busy pediatric programs across India and other countries.

The Sitaram Jaipuria Foundation salutes this tireless lifesaver and appreciates his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine and healthcare.

Outstanding Contribution in COVID Care

Prof. (Dr) Randeep Guleria

He is a renowned pulmonologist and the former Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

Dr Guleria spearheaded COVID-19 management at AIIMS, New Delhi, as its Director, and also created nationwide awareness about the pandemic through talks, webinars, and interviews in print, audio & visual media. He is a member of the National Task Force for the Government of India for COVID-19 and a member of the Empowered Group created by the Prime Minister's Office for multi-sectorial management of COVID-19. He is the Chairperson of the Clinical Research Group for COVID-19 of the Indian Council of Medical Research. He was personally involved in clinical & vaccine trials. He has co- authored over 70 high-impact research papers on COVID-19. He co-authored the bestseller "Till We Win: India's fight against COVID-19 Pandemic." He inspired people to trust vaccines by being one of the first Indians to be administered the COVID-19 vaccine.

Emerging Young Leader in Medicine

Dr Inderpaul Singh Sehgal and Dr Bhavuk Garg shared this award jointly.

Dr Inderpaul Singh Sehgal

He is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.

Dr Sehgal has been doing pioneering research in chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA). He has made significant contributions to the diagnosis and management of CPA. He had derived cut-off values for various investigations used in diagnosing CPA. He has also developed a follow-up protocol for CPA during treatment. He recently demonstrated 12-month therapy with oral azoles to be better than 6-month therapy, which has changed conventional treatment practice. This contribution by Dr Sehgal is certain to impact the current treatment guidelines for CPA.

Dr Bhavuk Garg

An eminent spine surgeon, an avid researcher, a renowned teacher, and above all, a fierce humanist, Dr Bhavuk Garg is a committed academician of international reckoning with several high-impact publications.

An alumnus from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Dr Garg is currently serving as Additional Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is dedicated to the treatment of much-neglected spinal disorders such as scoliosis, kyphosis & Pott's spine, including bone health in totality.

Some of his impactful innovations include the breakthrough Flexi-OH and the use of 3D printing for the treatment of spinal deformities. He has been funded by several national and international funding agencies to develop low-cost technologies, crafting patient-specific instruments, and building capacity in the field. He has pioneered the art of tying the knot in limited space in spinal surgeries.

Exemplary Leadership in Rural Healthcare

Dr Ashish Satav

Rather than enjoying a lucrative and flourishing medical profession in the city, Dr Ashish Satav served in difficult to access, hilly, forest, tribal areas of Melghat, India. He and his wife have devoted 23 years of their lives for the treatment of over 1,28,000 poor tribal communities at the cost of personal and family life.

He has treated and saved more than 4,500 serious patients with COVID-19. Through his efforts, he has significantly refaced child and maternal mortality, reduced the prevalence of severe malnutrition and achieved WHO targets in the villages with limited resources.

His research and advocacy have resulted in the implementation of tribal-health policies by 15 state governments benefiting more than one million vulnerable individuals. His Gandhian way of life and work for rural tribal India for the poorest of the poor people will spur other initiatives across the country.

The Sitaram Jaipuria Foundation salutes this life-saver and recognizes his immense contributions to rural healthcare.

The Chairman’s Special Award

Prof. Prakash Narain Tandon

Sitaram Jaipuria Foundation is immensely proud to confer the Chairman's Special Award to Professor Prakash Narain Tandon, for his exemplary contribution not only to neurosciences, but to science as a whole.

Prof. Tandon is known as an exceptional neurosurgeon and also as the "Father of Neurosurgery" in India. Not only have his contributions to neurosurgery been remarkable, but his role in leading the conceptualization, creation, and development of outstanding institutions, such as the Neurosciences Centre at AIIMS, New Delhi, and the National Brain Research Centre, has been unparalleled and acknowledged internationally. He has also built the capacity of several neurosurgeons across India, who have become eminent leaders in their own right. Throughout his career, he did not limit himself to neurosciences alone, but contributed to the art and science of medicine in India, and provided stewardship to Indian science in general and biomedical research in particular.

For his immense contributions to the nation, he has been awarded the Padma Shri , Padma Bhushan, and the Padma Vibhushan by the President of India, an exceptionally rare distinction.

We are grateful for this opportunity to salute this great son of India whose contributions to Indian science, research, and clinical medicine have been exceptionally significant.
