The Chairman’s Special Award
Prof. Prakash Narain Tandon
Sitaram Jaipuria Foundation is immensely proud to confer the Chairman's Special Award to Professor
Prakash Narain Tandon, for his exemplary contribution not only to neurosciences, but to science as a
whole.
Prof. Tandon is known as an exceptional neurosurgeon and also as the "Father of Neurosurgery" in
India. Not only have his contributions to neurosurgery been remarkable, but his role in leading the
conceptualization, creation, and development of outstanding institutions, such as the Neurosciences
Centre at AIIMS, New Delhi, and the National Brain Research Centre, has been unparalleled and
acknowledged internationally. He has also built the capacity of several neurosurgeons across India,
who have become eminent leaders in their own right. Throughout his career, he did not limit himself
to neurosciences alone, but contributed to the art and science of medicine in India, and provided
stewardship to Indian science in general and biomedical research in particular.
For his immense contributions to the nation, he has been awarded the Padma Shri , Padma Bhushan,
and the Padma Vibhushan by the President of India, an exceptionally rare distinction.
We are grateful for this opportunity to salute this great son of India whose contributions to Indian
science, research, and clinical medicine have been exceptionally significant.
